The anime did remove quite a lot of Damuel's funny "patheticness".
It is repeatedly stressed just how poor Damuel is. For example, when he sees the orphans play with cards and read, he exclaims that they get a better education than laynobles. He is also absolutely flabbergasted by the parue-cakes that the orphans get to eat, since sweets are a rare commodity for laynobles like him.
But on the other hand, the anime shows Damuel apologizing to Fran for proposing to bring books into her room. That's something only a noble with an extremely damaged self-esteem would do.

I do really wonder how Damuel will develop.
At this moment it is clear that he regrets his own inactiveness, but it seems he does so because of his punishment and not because of him realizing that he failed his creed.
He also seems very neutral to Main. He does not blame her for what has happened, but also does not directly show distain for that green haired nobles actions.

Over all, he seems to just be a guy without a purpose for himself, just some average dude living the average low-nobles life like by guidelines and not his own choices.

he feels like an example of someone who belives they all have a certain place. he is a laynoble but his circumstances as one such is unlucky.
he doesn't blame anyone for his punishment because that's just what was his role or something.
i can only imagine what Mains fighting against such roles and complete disregard for anyone being bound by their circumstances would do to someone like that.

I'm guessing you read the light novel, my question is HOW? I liked the anime and tried reading it online but the translation I found on every site was god awful, I'm pretty sure it was just the original run through an auto translator. It was the first time I thought trying to read a light novel felt more like work than fun so I dropped it despite my interest.

Bought online version from the amazon app they have. They are quite cheap as well iirc. The translation is great and I never had a moment where I didnt understand the context.

I just bought the light novel. It is really well written and translated.
The WN only has MTL and is famous for it's terrible translation. For example, one character is consistenly called Rieserator.

Lutz: Main, calm down.
Main: No, you need to be more excited, Lutz! Gutenburg's first name is Johannes, and we have Johann here!
Me: How can he, or anyone in this room, be excited, when YOU are the only person in the room who knows who Gutenburg is?! You numpty!

Lutz really needs to have a talk about her throwing her otherworldy knowledge around like this... The inventions are one thing, but the names...

Especially considering other than Ferdinad, he's the only other person who knows Main isn't really "Main", and figured it out long before he confronted her about it.

She did say Gutenberg is the "god of printing". Its safe to assume nobody would bat an eye about it since considering the common people are illiterate and the nobles wouldn't take notice of minute details.

That's actually worse, because given how the church works in this setting, someone having beliefs that contradict theirs is likely to get something horrid done to them.

Why are they all called high priest, Even the High Bishop was called high priest, was that a translation error?

In the light novel it was the High Bishop and the Head Priest if I recall correctly. They changed it in the anime for no good reason, as far as I can tell.
